RESUMO
A hepatite crônica é um achado constante e conspícuo na esquistossomose. Neste trabalho são apresentadas as características microscópicas desta hepatite, salientando-se as suas características de atividades e a sua não correlação com os granulomas em tôrno de ovos. Sugere-se que o processo apareça em conseqüência de reações de hipersensibilidade de tipo celular e que seja um importante fator na dinâmica das lesões portais, tais como a fíbrose, fleboesclerose, arterioloesclerose, fibrose peri-neural, hipertrofia neural e proliferação ductal e ductular.
ABSTRACT
Chronic hepatitis is a conspicous and frequent finding in schistosomiasis. Microscopic characteristics of such hepatitis are presented, with especial emphasis on its signs of activity and the absence of correlation with schistosomal granulomas. It is suggested that the hepatitis results from, delayed type hypersensitivity reactions to schistosomal antigens and that it is an important pathosgenetic pathway to portal fibrosis, flebosclerosis, perineural fibrosis, neural hypertrophy and ductal and ductular proliferations, which are characteristic findings of advanced schistosomiasis.
